Does solar power have a future?

Question:
I'm doing a geography project and I need to know if solar power has a future. I'm pretty sure it does but all the books and wbsites I've checked give so many different answers. Please help me out.

Answer:
Solar power is not going to replace our traditional power sources but it is going to be used more and more in the future. Many people think solar power is too expensive, but there are three reasons why it is going to become much more popular.

1. Traditional forms of generating power are going to get more expensive. It is very likely that world will agree to implement a carbon trading scheme that will increase the price electricity produced by of gas, coal and oil power stations. This is because these companies will have to buy carbon credits to keep going.

2. The cost of the Solar Panels reduces every year and they get more efficient.

3. Government grants are making it much more affordable. California has the most generous grants, but may other states have them too.

All this means that solar power is going to be much more attractive in the coming years and people and business will start installing them, to save money on power bills and to be socially responsible.
It does not cause it is not economically viable as it is not able to generate enough power for our growing needs. As much as we hate it, nuclear and thermal is the way for now.
Once we are able to improve the capabilities of solar panels and make them cheaper, it will have a great chance.
