They decided that the criteria for Pluto to be a planet is that: Its orbital must be free of "obstacles", just like an express way. The obstacles I mentioned were other objects in solar system. Pluto does not meet that criteria, hence they decided to eliminate it from the list.

At present the solar system is classified as
1. planet
2. dwarf planet
3. Small Solar-System Bodies
The only major difference bet (1) and (2) is the latter has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit and its not a satellite!
Since Pluto's highly elliptical orbit brought it closer to the Sun than Neptune, providing rare opportunities to study this small, cold, distant world and its companion moon, Charon : its downgraded to dwarf planet!
