Why are planets in our solar system aligned on the same orbital plane?
Question:
Answer:
Because they formed out of a single flat disk of material around the sun.
Actually, they are not all aligned along the same orbital plane. As a bizarre example, consider that Pluto has an erratic orbit that puts it. at times, inside of the orbit of Neptune. Maybe it's non-conformity led to its demotion from full-fledged planet status.
I believe the prevailing theory is that as the gas cloud begins to spin centrifugal force produces a disk-like shape. The spinning is likely the result of the sun being formed at the center. As gravity condenses the proto-star, the spinning increases like the figure skater when she draws her arms closer to her center of gravity.
