Well, such questions can start a debate, but there will never be a clear-cut resolution as each system has its own advantages and disadvantages. i think thats all we can say
Plugging into the sun itself, wouldn't that be something to harness THAT energy!! Sterling definately!
For small scale systems. like individual homes, photovoltaics are clearly a better choice. Cheaper, less complicated, less maintenance.
For big power plants it's not so clear. Pretty much depends on how research for both systems goes, since solar is uncompetitive for this application right now.
