What will it be like if our daily world ran on solar energy?
Question:
Answer:
The world would be very dark. In order to provide enough energy to meet global demands, the panels would have to cover the entire world's surface (and then more). There won't be any sunlight left below the panels.
(Which, incidentally, would require the use of artificial lighting and increase the demand for energy even more)
You can power things for a long time with solar power, same with wind and dam power.
We would have less pollution and a cleaner enviroment. It'd be excellent if we could but some places have less sunlight than others.
a lot of money and smarts , thats for sure!
There wouldn't be so many needy orphans, among other things...
My car would have a solar panel.
WOW fresh air in Los Angeles!
The world would be a much quieter place to be.
America would no longer be dependant on other countries.
The list could be endless!
The natural world already runs on solar energy, perhaps offering clues as to how we should proceed to maximize this valuable resource.
The earth only receives 2 billionths of the solar energy radiated. But if the light falling on North America annually was paid for at $ 0.08 per kwh, the annual bill would be $3.2 quintillion dollars. Chicago would have to pay $400 million per day.
We should be able to use such a tremendous resource in better ways.
If it replaced other forms of energy there would be no atmospheric pollution or global heating gases from powerplants, buses and automobiles.
We also need to work on better ways of storing electric power.
Perhaps we will discover a way of storing solar power.
The Canadians are already using geothermal heating for ordinary houses. It does not require huge powerplants as in Iceland to take advantage of the geothermal source for homes.
I will try to include a blog entry on the latter at my Weather vs Housing blog:

but it won't be until April or May, other things already in the pipeline.
