Will solar cars ever replace automobiles powered by gasoline?

Question:

Answer:
Wish this is possible, but alas...the panels are so expensive and the environmental depletion of those sensor elements will put an added burden on our earth.

We have to live with this thirst for oil for the foreseeable future.

But I really am concerned about the future generation and as yet unborn children in the 22nd century. What legacy are we leaving behind for them?

They will curse, spit and swear at us for having been so selfish.
no, Gasoline may be replaced, but not with solar panels. Its just not that effective.
One day!
who knows, but that would be so awesome!
no
May be one day. when we completely screw up this world and run out of gasoline or petrol. But question is will we be there till then?
No, by the time solar powered cars would be affordable, the light from the sun would not be able to penetrate the brown cloud that will be surrounding the earth.
i hope so, lets use this sun for other stuff besides tanning.
I don't believe so, but gasoline will eventually be replaced by some alternative car.
No, some places are just to cloudy or foggy.
I seriously doubt it. But I do think Hydrogen powered cars may. Solar does not porduce enough energy.
solar powered cars. what a novel idea. perhaps the battery operated cars with fuel cells powered by a solar panel in your house... just needs to be recharged.
Not in the foreseeable future.

Nikola Tesla was working on a way to beam energy to everyone on the planet. Edison, his peer/rival said to him "That's wonderful Nikola, but where will you put the meter."

We all know who became synonymous with the electric company and who became one of histories all but forgotten geniuses.
what
Well technically yes they will have to, because oil isen't going to be in supply forever

But I think hydrogen powered cars are the future.
Not a chance. The technology that would allow such a thing to happen is so underdeveloped (and probably can't be made feasible) that it would cost dozens of times more than a gasoline car while sacraficing performance by several times. One possibility however is the use of solar power to charge an electric vehichle. That idea is more likely due to much lower cost. It isn't exactly a solar power car as you put it, but it is a car using "free" energy from the sun.
I think solar power would be used in houses more than in cars. It makes more sense to me to use methane gas - this solves two problems for the environment. Methane gas is made from garbage and waste. Let's create the processing plants to convert the waste and garbage into methane gas. You could find this already available in a tiny amount of gas stations and it doesn't take a lot to adjust your car to run on methane. So?? Why aren't we using it??
That would be a wonderful thing indeed. However greed is what runs this country and they want to keep the money so not in this lifetime.
Not in England.everything would be stationary..perhaps if they made one that ran on rain and clouds :)
At this current rate of research and development, I don't see gas powered car replaced by solar powered car anytime soon. You might have a better chance of seeing some type of hybrid system available in all cars in your lifetime.

In the sahara desert maybe. Most areas they are not feasable.
