What role did comets play in discovering the solar wind?

Question:

Answer:
when a comet approaches the sun it produces a tail. no matter where the comet is the tail is always pointing away from the sun. the reason for this is the solar wind is pushing the tail away from the sun.
Simply put; the solar winds blow the comets tail away from the main body of the comet. I'm sure there is more depth and detail than this on the interweb though.
