In what way can the solar system effect us?
Question:
Answer:
In many ways... oops someone else already said that ;-)
Let's start with the obvious. The Earth as part of the solar system effects us quite obviously. Place to live, atmosphere, etc. Next the Sun provides the gravity so the Earth orbits it, light to heat us and grow plants, solar wind to cause northern lights, and occasional solar storms that knock out electrical equipment and cause blackouts. The moon causes tides (as does the sun to a small degree) and may effect people (crime studies argue both ways on this and is far from proven). Jupiter and the other planets don't effect us directly, although if they nudge an asteroid or comet into an Earth crossing orbit, they can crash into us occasionally as someone else mentioned. If you are thinking along the lines of Astrology, there is no scientific evidence of effect of planets on personal health, wealth, or dating success. Those are the major forces, although I do like the theory that basic components of life can be distributed by comets. That's all I can think of other than people who like to listen to the solar wind hitting Jupiter's magentic field on their ham radios.
In many ways.
Comets and asteroids whose orbits get disturbed passing near other planets can get put into collision courses with earth. When that has happened it's been catastrophic for most life on earth. If it happened while humanity is top dog it will destroy civilization and quite possibly kill every person. Other than that the solar system is has little effect on the earth and us.
We are part of the solar system, so the entire system can affect the earth to some degree.
The sun - heat, light, magnetic fields, coronal mass ejections.
Mercury, Venus, and Mars - not a lot of effect on Earth except to look at in the night sky
Asteroids - they can change orbits due to interactions with comets or Jupiter and possibly come close to Earth
Jupiter - can affect the orbits of comets and asteroids that can then come close to Earth
Saturn, Uranus, Neptune - no direct effect, except like Jupiter they can affect the orbits of comets
Kuiper Belt - thought to be the source of short-term comets that could come close to Earth
Oort Cloud - thought to contain trillions of small icy comet heads that could be disturbed in their orbits (by close-approach stars or gravitational fields from supernovas) and therefore come close to Earth
All these objects are also valuable to study for understanding the formation and development of the solar system and therefore our own planets (and other planetary systems). Plus the visible planets are beautiful to see in the night sky and even more so up close from probes or long-distance telescopes (especially Jupiter and Saturn, and of course Mars with our 2 Rovers still plugging along on the planet).
We are in the solar system, EVERYTHING that happens to us is in the solar system.
That's like asking how the planet earth can affect us.
