Question:
Answer:
Agility is a great dog sport that's fun for the family too! We are persuing it with our 5 month old Border Collie puppy.
Your best bet is to contact an agility club in your area to get referrals for trainers. I found that our yellow pages had no trainers listed that focused on agility. Even if there are some listed, I would still email the agility club and follow up on any of their suggestions. They know what they are doing in this area and will refer you to trainers that they have used and liked. Always a bonus there. Just because someone trains, in any kind of area, it doesn't mean they are actually good at it, know what they are doing, or that you'll be okay with their training methods. Unfortunately, there's no requirements of education to be a trainer.
If you do want to persue agility, you will first need to do obedience, but hopefully you can find a trainer who does both (we did) as these two go hand in hand. You have to have your dog solid on sit, stay, come, down and focused on you before beginning agility.
It's a great sport that we are just beginning to get into and I am personally looking forward to it! Good Luck!
