How can they make solar cars less expensive for everyone to afford?
Question:
Answer:
I'm not sure solar cars will ever be practical, especially in places that don't get enough sun. However, extending your question to other alternative technology, like hybrids or the future possibility of cars that run on hydrogen, the price of technology tends to come down when mass production is possibility. With every new technology, they start out as an expensive innovation and eventually become a commodity, priced for the common man. Over my life I watched this happen with calculators, VCRs (they once were cutting edge, now they are over the hill), CD players, DVD players, etc. It's happening now with HDTV. A long time ago cars were only for rich people, then Henry Ford created the assembly line and the Model T and regular people started to buy them. Once a technology is proven, someone will figure a way to produce it for less and prices will come down.
Have the auto company take a "loss" for a while to increase popularity of the cars
Do more research.
I believe solar cell made from polymers instead of silicon offers the best option.
First, let someone make one that is reliable and can carry a useful amount of cargo. Beyond that this is not A question, but many questions, which all together, make up a field of study. If anyone comes up with answers to enough of the questions to make a solar car which actually meets anyone's transportation needs, then economy of scale, continued research and engineering and competition will bring prices down.
