Why doesn't the United States use solar and wind energy?
Question:
Answer:
There are several windmill "farms" cropping up all over America. There ARE people who care, there has been a lot of lip service and very little action from the elected officials. People from other countries depict the American citizens as greedy, selfish, bastards because they don't really know the average American wants alternative energy. There are so many rich people and companies that don't want the changes to happen. That is why America is moving so slowly to alternative energy.
STOP BLAMING THE AMERICA PEOPLE.
cuz they are greedy bastards that use too much nuclear, coal ext.. type energy that they are nearing running out of it, therefore they have to come up with other ways to waste energy
The reason that the US doesn't use wind power is because it takes too many fans to power a certain amount of space. The fans would take up more space than what they'd actually power. As for Solar Energy, the technology isn't quite up to speed once again you'd need a solar panel twice the size of a city to power it and it'd probably only last about two hours or so. The reason we use nuclear and fossil fuel energy is because it's more cost efficient and more energy efficient.
OIL! Too many politicians own stock in oil. Too many millionaires owe their fortunes to oil and will use all their influence to get other politicians to sway energy use to stay in oil.
Our beloved President owns mucho grande stakes in oil as does his entire family. Oil is power.
there are places that do use lots of wind energy but it is still a budding resource that is slowly growing. personal usage and small amounts are slowing growing in use but the expense is still up high but the pay off is slowy growing
this is coz there is more money to make by using other sources of energy.for more info you can watch the movie who killed the electric car due on nov 14 2006
If you check the progression of wind energy installed capacity over the past 5 years, you'll see it's growing annually - and significantly. That said, we are using wind energy and there are plans to install a lot more of it. In fact, the government has placed renewable energy targets in the US, the majority of which will be provided by wind energy.
If you look at the cost of wind power in it's early days, it was a LOT more than traditional coal, gas, or oil fired power plants. Now, fossil fuels cost a lot more and wind turbines cost less, so we're approaching the same price for either in terms of megawatt capacity.
I don't agree that the area required to install wind turbines is a lot more than the amount of power they provide to households. A turbine with a foundation the size of a 3000 square foot house can power 1500 houses. With tower heights of 300 feet and power ratings anywhere from 1 to 3 megawatts, there's a heck of a lot of power being generated. When you put 100-200 of these turbines in the middle of nowhere (midwest US), you can easily transmit this significant amount of power to areas that need it. That's what we're doing today in Colorado, Texas, the Dakotas, ..the list goes on.
Wind is still growing. Wind turbine manufacturers, for the past few years, can't build enough machines to satisfy the market. That's not going to change any time soon.
