Are solar photovoltaic panels expensive to purchase & install? Can I self install or is this a pro job?
Question:
Answer:
It is expensive if you just look at the price and say Wow! that is a lot of money. But when you compare it to renting electricity for the next 30 years and total the cost.. Well you end up making money.
You should find the package system you want which comes with instructions on how to install. Install the parts of the system you can and hire an electrician to run the wires and make the connections. You could save a great deal of money doing it that way.
Mounting the solar modules on the roof is by far the hardest part of the whole install. The inverter and charge controllers all have a Pos and a Neg markings and so does the solar modules making the wireing hookups easy. However to hook up to the utility you have to have a building inspector sign the paper showing he has inspected it. Catch 22 is you have to have an electrician sign the permit or the building inspector will not approve the system. If you install it wrong your home could be flaged as unsafe and you could end up being put out of your home till the wireing is brought up to code.
The easy way and the best way, Is to let the Solar electric dealer take care of it for you. The dealer is the one who has been trained and knows the electric building codes for solar electric your area.
The answer very much depends on the size of the system and its complexity. If you want a package unit that powers a few lights, put it in yourself. If you want something to power your home and interface with the power company system, get a pro.
yes they are very expensive and do you think you can choose me so i can reach 800 points cause i made a promise with some one
There are codes to be met, mostly for safety. Disconnects in visible sight are required, and the local utilities need to know you have them.
Transformers work in both directions. What that means is, during a power outage your PV system is back feeding into the utility grid. A transformer designed to step the 4160 or the 13200 volts,( which ever grid is in your area), down to the 220/110 you have in you house, will work in reverse and step your power up and put it in the grid. A lineman working on the system needs to know you have a PV system and where to disconnect it from the grid.
sure they are expensive.
It's better if you hire a licensed contractor to do it because there's a lot to know to have it done properly with maximum effectiveness too. Plus ANYTHING to do with electricity I HIGHLY recommend anyone hire a licensed contractor because I have heard too many stories about deaths when people who don't know what they're doing start messing around with it
Awake's information is not quite correct. A solar PV system acceptable for being tied to the grid will automatically stop producing AC when an outage occurs
Do a lot of studying before deciding whether to install or have installed a solar PV system. There is lots of information on the Internet, and in AnswersRoom.com. Just click on the search box at the upper right of this page.
