If someone invented a solar powered car tommorrow, would you go out and get one?

Question:
if it's say 5 thousand dollars more expensive then petrol engine cars, or would you stick to your petrol ones?

Answer:
yes i would, i think our planets resources are runnig out fast so i'd wellcome anything that slows this down but that all we can do .
no
No. I'm a V8 man.
I'd go get one!
We all need to stick it to these oil companies!
That depends on the weather.
I would have to wait until the cost was closer to that of a car I can buy now. Also, would it have a back up battery or some other means of using it when it is cloudy or night time?

If they invent it and it works and I can afford it...I would definately buy it!
Depends on if its an American car.
You still wouldn't save money in England, because the thieving government would slap a huge tax on it.
yes i will
for sure
nah
If it was really fast , yes.
No, it would probably cost way too much, and would be hard to get fixed, and then would not work some days etc...
i would go buy the solar powered one
No!!!!
hell ya. Dude a solar powered car I would never have to fill up my tank again
if it was $5,000 they would sell like hot cakes
of course you wouldn't be able to drive at night
no, because there isn't enough sunshine in oregon.
the solar powered car exists, however it is not possible to create one that can compete with modern cars at this moment in time.

If such a car exsisted then of course I would as not only would i be saving the environment (a bit it takes a lot of carbon to make a car) but I would also be saving money in the long run
I would want one for environmental reasons but it would be too expensive for my wallet... ^.^
Not unless it was powerful enough to tow my horse trailer or my husband's Bobcat!!
no it takes a while to work out the bugs in any new technology and they've been around for a bit haven't they
No, I love burning rubber in my Mach1 Mustang, smoking my tires and giving that gas guzzling engine a big, big drink.
Can't do that in one of those glorified roller skates.
I would probably wait for a year or so to see what problems the car has. Then, if it is working well, I would definitely buy it. We have to wean ourselves from our dependence on oil A solar-powered car would help the global warming problem, plus it would break our dependence on oil from the Middle East.
No way! I live in the Northwest, so the solar feature would have to use to me (except for three months of the year.)

If the companies want to make solar cars, they'll need to reduce the size of the technology (less surface size) and give all of them electrical- or gasoline-operated backups, for when it's not sunny.

Batteries to store the energy for long periods of time would not be enough (these are usually found in current solar vehicles) since some areas don't get ample sun all times of the year.

A great idea, but the car companies would have to actually invest money, time, and labor into these cars. And as we all know, those the the big three (investing) enemies of business.
For $5000 more, the complete lack of gas would easily make up for it in operational costs. People will buy hybrids for that sticker increase, particularly for luxury cars that already cost an arm&leg.

The trick is always to get the solar car to perform similar or better to the gasoline car. My hybrid has noticeably more power than the gasoline model and is very clean for the environment, even though the savings in gas is generally modest at best.
Hell yes...I am sick of being a slave to the oil peoples!
If I were in the market for a new car and could afford it, I'd love to have a car powered by alternative sources. I had the opportunity to ride in a hybrid vehicle shortly after moving to Washington state, and they make all kinds of sense!
There already are solar powered cars. They even have building competitions and country spanning races. There are also plenty of alternative fuel vehicles that are superior to solar at the present time. The popularity of the Toyota Prius is being matched by the political and financial clout of the oil and auto industries which have little interest in switching to alternative fuels. And, really, why should I switch to something less powerful, less convenient, and less reliable?
if it saves the environment, i wouldnt mind buying it
I would absolutely get one right away! It might take a while to use $5,000 in gas but I'd also be helping the environment. I'd be there to buy the new car in a heartbeat.
I'd go solar in a heartbeat, screw Exxon and Mobil and Shell and Valero and especially Citgo, and Iran and Saudi Arabia and Venezuela and also screw the oil company execs with their $400 million retirement packages.
