How do i build a mobile of the solar system with a 7yr old, that is easy but creative? need ideas??

Question:

Answer:
I painted Styrofoam balls of different sizes for my two year old daughter. The only moon I included was ours and I attached it to the earth with a toothpick. (You could use those little crafty-puff-ball-thingies for the moons of other planets.) I made the rings of the ringed planets with poster board that I painted and cut into a circle. I also attached those with toothpicks. (She's two, she's not picky.)
I used metal florist wire to make hooks that I stuck directly into the balls and attatched them directly to the ceiling with thumbtacks.

Hope this helps. A 7 yr old would definitely enjoy the painting, etc. . . Good luck!

**The above mentioned technique with the ballons and paper strips is called paper mache.**
If there is a Pearl Art store near where you live, they sell kits that include everything you need to create a mobile of the solar system, except the paint.

Buy foam balls and paint them different colors. Make sure they are different sizes. You can use sticks or string to make sure the planets stay in order.
My son and I made a model using a technique that the name excapes me at the moment, but I can tell you how we did it, I'll try to be brief.
We blew up ballons and them took strips of paper sacks and dipped them in a watered down white glue mixture, elmers works or any kind will do, and placed them on the ballons, leaving a hole on the bottom and the top put a string on the on the ballon so you can get it out after the planet dries. After it dried we poked a hole in the ballons and pulled them out of the planet and them he used his water colors and drayons to color them, like you would if you could see them from space.
Then get a pretty strong card board box and cut off the top flaps and spray paint the inside black matte. Then , you probably will have to help on this part a lot, dab white paint in specks on the black, this is supposed to be stars, and you have your universe to put your planets in.
You should have 9 planets and 1 sun. take string or fishing line and run a string through each on leaving the lenth to correspond with the distance away from the sun of ech planet, then place them in the box by putting a hole in the top and running the strings through them and knotting the ends on the outside of the box. The sun in the center and the planets orbiting around it.
Actually you can get really crative and use glitter and all kinds of cool stuff and you can put a light in front of it and turn off the room lights and the little white specks stand out really well and look like a starry sky.
We had a really good time creating this thing and we both remember it fondly! And he is 22 now Good Luck and have relly good time!
make it out of clay or you can paint styrofoam balls.
