What is the highest efficency a solar panel has reached so far?

Question:
And what's the highest efficency a commercially available panel has reached? (If it's different)

Answer:
A guy I was in Grad School with (he was a chemist) used to work for Arco Solar and he told me (some years ago) that they'd achieved around 30% efficiency. BUt that figure may be higher today.

Doug
In laboratory conditions I've heard up to 40%. In the real world however, I've heard the efficiency is closer to 10-15%.
With the last technologies the efficiency of actual solar panels can be increased of a 200- 250% ,and with less(expensive )material to build it .This is due to a sistem of one lens ,for each cell, that focuses the solar energy, with precision on the cell.
This will allow us to use less, expensive ,silicium.
Therefore, solar energy will became more affordable.

Regards.
