Re: Solar electric panels and invertors.
It is a bit frustrating. You need patience to rely on solar for electric. It only produces when the sun is out. No electricity from around 5 PM to 9 AM. If there are clouds, very little electricity produced. It is expensive to buy and install. It is cheaper to install more panels all aimed to the South than to go to the expense of a sun tracking system. The power company will credit your acct the energy produced. I have seen my meter go backwards. It takes about 7 years to pay for the system including depreciation. After that the energy is free!! The system is supposed to last 25 years. I have had to replace the invertors twice in 3 years. They cost $2500 dollars each but they are warranted for 5 years. You have to have an automatic switch off if it is connected to the grid and the line power goes off. Otherwise the power would feed back into the line and could electrocute a lineman. You are liable for that if it happens. Hydroelectric eg a paddle wheel in a stream or river would be much better. It is continuous, 24/7. Cheaper too.
