From the Bible, there is a perfect answer to your question. Abraham's posterity would be as the sands of the sea. Not just the beach, mind you, but of the sea as well! To further expand. The earth is appoximately 6 billion years old. If you were to fly the speed of light at the time of earth's birth, you would not have reached the far extents of the universe on your current birthday! You are meant to feel alone sometimes, it's how you choose to become you and not somebody else.
Scientists have found dozens of extra-solar planets. And there are no doubt countless more out there. We are just a grain of sand on the beach.

There are a lot of solar systems in the stars. Because planets themselves do not emit light, we cannot see them as we do see stars. If you do a search for extra solar planets you will find that scientists have found a lot of those. Planets can be seen only by the gravitational effects they have on their parent stars; also when the star is partly eclipsed by the darker planet; that is why we can only find the more massive ones (like Jupiter) for now. There is a new research program that I read about, for finding smaller planets.
Astronomers have even found planets in binary star systems!
So you see, the universe is full of solar systems.
Dozens of planets orbiting "nearby" stars outside this solar system have been discovered in the past several years. So there are probably billions of solar systems in this galaxy and there are probably billions of galaxies. The numbers get rather large after a while.
