When you are looking at a solar eclipse you are looking at the Sun ; and that is bad. That means eclipse or no eclipse it is always bad and dangerous to the eyes. Now let us see why:-
In our eyes there is a lense that focuses every thin on to the retina of the eye whish is at the back of the lense.
It due to the perfect focussing you can get a sharp image of every thing and see clearly. If not the defect is corrected by using spectacles or contact lenses.
In a cinema house also the lense of the projecter gives a sharp image on the screen and we enjoy the film.
When one looks at the Sun , the eye lense will try to focus the Sun on the retina and the problem begins.The sharp and HOT image of the Sun on the retina will try to burn a hole in it . How do you like the idea !
If you do not believe it then take an ordinary glass lense( The one that is shown in the hands of a detective and used to magnify an object or see the lines on a palm in palmistry.)
