Why can't you look directly at a solar eclipse?

Question:

Answer:
The Sun can be viewed safely with the naked eye only during the few brief seconds or minutes of a total solar eclipse. Partial eclipses, annular eclipses, and the partial phases of total eclipses are never safe to watch without taking special precautions. Even when 99% of the Sun's surface is obscured during the partial phases of a total eclipse, the remaining photospheric crescent is intensely bright and cannot be viewed safely without eye protection [Chou, 1981; Marsh, 1982]. Do not attempt to observe the partial or annular phases of any eclipse with the naked eye. Failure to use appropriate filtration may result in permanent eye damage or blindness!
cause it will effect your eyes.
You'll damage your retinas.
If it's a total eclipse, you can!
Eclipse will damage your eyes.
You may get complete blind.

Please don't do that.
The extreme light measured by your eye and other instruments needs to be blocked out so that the surrounding circumfrence of the sun (which is many times dimmer) can be observed without being overpowered by the brightness of the star. Similarily, but to an extreme, planets orbiting other stars in our galaxy are impossible to see because of the brightness of their host star in comparison to the light they reflect. Planets in other systems are discovered by gravitational "wobbles" from planets orbiting.
you can look at it when it is a full eclipse or when it is about to start, but when the moon is about to block off the sun you can't look at the ring because you will get blind
the dangers of looking at an eclipse is "time". It is more dangerous to look at the naked sun thean an eclipse as it si darker and cooler during an eclipse so you look longer.
