Whats the best way to solar heat my swimming pool, on the roof.?
Question:
Answer:
I remember when I was a kid my dad built a frame about 20' long by about 2 1/2' wide and lined it with the industrial strength aluminum foil and covered the whole thing(the framed box) with clear plastic, he then ran black pvc pipe from the out on the filter and coiled it around and around in the frame and back to the filter. This was for an above ground pool and it was laid on the ground at the end of the pool where nobody usually walked and I tell you our pool was always opened up on April 1st and we were swimming by the end of April in warm water. The nice part was it didn't take any extra hydro because the filter did all the work.
You will have to buy the proper solar absorber. I work in a pool shop and have seen 101 different ways of trying to set up a solar system but never have i seen one work. An average pool would have 40 square meters (266.4 linear metres) of rubber for the water to flow through at a controlled speed. I am yet to see anyone emulate this. The proper rubber also has a 15yr guarantee - not much else will last on your roof for this amount of time. Save up and do it properly!
