What are the pros and cons of a solar cooker?
Question:
Answer:
there's only one real con to speak of, and that is not being able to really controll the amount of heat without monitoring it all the time. Oh! another might be that it's not practical for cooking small amounts of food.
Otherwise, everything else is a positive. No fuels used, no pollution. Inexpensive, plenty of heat can be generated. Hopefully your model can generate a good amount of heat on a cloudy day?
the negatives can be overcome, yet maybe it really isn't a completely reliable way of cooking... this is the first time i've really thought of it!
would you be able to cook at night? that seems like a real con to me
Another con would be that most solar cooker designs that I'm familiar with do not make it easy to stir or add ingredients which can be problematic for some foods.
As for the pros, well, they are a lot easier-- just a few would be:
+ no burning of fuels leading to greenhouse gases
+ no worries about fuels (buying gas or cutting down trees)
+ none of the respiratory problems that have been linked to cooking fires
