If this were started today, by the end of 2009 the United States of America could be 70% free of any oil consumption whatsoever, domestic or foreign.

My proposal: Dear [Senator] [Congressperson]: As my elected representative, I demand that for every tax dollar spent to wage war in a foreign country, one dollar be put into a sealed trust account for the sole and only purpose of fitting, or retrofitting, every American residence, whether home, apartment, trailer, or whatever, with solar equipment.

I have eMailed my representative about eliminating energy subsidies for oil companies except in the case of alternative energy research and development which will decrease our "carbon footprint" -- namely all-electric/solar transportation modes.
She is now on the energy sub-committee and I am hopeful she will be a voice for sanity in energy independence.
The senators from Arizona are another matter.
