What risks associated with the production of solar energy?

Question:

Answer:
It's generally a "clean" form of energy, but solar panels as we make them today have chemicals in them that are hazardous to the environment when disposed of. Some object to solar because it ruins scenery, but putting arrays of panels in desert areas still seems like a good idea. Using mirrors to reflect and concentrate energy can avoid the toxicity problem, but solar is still not as cheap as the equipment used to make other forms of electricity. Some have proposed putting solar collectors in space and beaming the energy back to earth as microwaves, which is a way around the scenery and toxicity problems, but we lack cheap launch vehicles for now.
