Why doesn't someone invent a solar powered car? It seems like it would be easy to put on the roof.?

Solar cells and the batteries that go along with it are not strong enough yet to support a car like the ones we have now.
Oil companies pay governments big bucks to get drilling rights and permits to do what they do. I don't think we will have a mass produced solar car for many years.

There are solar powered cars in production but they are not effective & are not designed for daily use due to their cumbersome shapes. In fact there is a solar powered car race every year in Australia. They require large solar panels which not only are cumbursome but are also fragile. The biggest problem however is the inability to carry much load & ofcourse the loss of power once sun goes out. The option to solar powered car is ofcourse the hybrid cars which are making good progress in the market with all major car makers delving into them.
the goverment doesnt want it to happen i have actually had some people tell that gm has made proto types but goverment stopped all of it because of tax they would loose on gas.
