we are in the orion arm of the galaxy.
There Are many different arms of the Milky Way
Each arm describes a logarithmic spiral with a pitch of approximately 12 degrees.
the different Arms include
Perseus Arm, Norma and Cygnus Arm,Crux and Scutum Arm,Carina and Sagittarius Arm and the Oion Arm which we live in
There is an interesting new theory about the placement of our solar system about the Milky Way's Orion arm.
Unfortunately, I can't remember where I saw it.
The theory states that we are not in the Milky Way's arm, but we are one of the stars near the end of the Orion arm. We are not quite along side the Orion arm of the Milky way, but we are rotating around the Milky Way while we are in close proximity of what could be described as the official bounds of the Orion arm.
The justification of this theory is that we have had a relatively quiet last 3.5 billion years of existence. Some scientists are saying that the lack of other solar systems colliding with ours for so long is an indication of a lack of solar systems/stars in the immediate neighborhood. This lack of neighboring solar systems means we could not be considered "in" the arm, but near the arm
Spiral Arm
Orion
We call it the Orion Arm. The Galactic Federation calls it Sector 9.
