Why is solar energy not being developed cheaply to save the world of pollution?

Question:
more and more less developed countries especially in Africa are dependant on other forms electricfication whilst they have the sun in abundance.

Answer:
I am a electrician and ask myself that everday..They don't even offer any low cost loans or grants. They only offer a federal income tax credit in the state in the usa i live in. I want to put solar pannels on the roof but it would be 10-20k with me doing it myself.
I think that it has fallen beside the wayside because of its inefficient. It takes such a large panel to generate a small amount of energy. Not to mention its unreliability because of clouds. Here in the Central US we are starting to take advantage of wind power. There are large windmills popping up all over. If you ever have the chance to get close to one of these do! They are incredible in size.
Solar energy is still very expensive to produce on commercial basis
Neither solar panels nor windmils are effective enough. They cannot supply energy to cities or factories.
Maybe if the oil companies were not say dominant in world polotics we might have more research into renewable energies. I think it is argentina has produced and oil or petrol ( not sure) from sugar cane but who has heard of this not many people i would imagine. Oil companies are too strong.
It can be, but they have to be innovative. Sadly, many places are lacking in that. Israel has done a lot of research on solar power generation, and in particular "solar ponds". If used correctly, solar ponds could replace some of the aging water distillation facilities. But it takes investment and ingenuity.

Too many people are bent on "now now now!" versus, "now it's not much but if we work on it a few years down the road it'll be bigger and better".
IT CANT BE COZ TILL NOW WE DONT HAVE EITHER OF SOURCES TO DO THAT. WE DONT HAVE ENOUGH PRODUCTION OF SOLAR CELLS NOW WE HAVE THOSE EQUPIMENTS WHICH CAN DO THAT AT FAST RATE. WE DO NOT HAVE THOSE SKILL WORKERS WHO CAN DO THAT. AND UNLESS ALL THIS IS NOW PROVIDED, IT WONT BE CHEAP ENOUGH.
First the premise of your question is false. You assume that solar energy is a zero impact energy source. It is not.

Also from a practicality standpoint solar power can never be a primary sources of energy. Why?

1: What do you do on a cloudy day when its 90 outside and you want to turn your air on?
2: What do you do at night when you need to use your computer?
3: What do you do if you live in higher latitudes when the sun is only out for 1/3 or less of the day?

Solar has a role in helping to meet mid day peak energy demands at the more equatorial latitudes, but until a significant break through in storage and transmission lines takes place it is unreasonable to expect it to do anything more then that.

For normal load power delivery you still need Nuke/Oil/Hydro/Coal which are consistent and cheap.
Thousands of people at hundreds of companies are working VERY hard to fine ways to make solar power cheaper, and it is cheaper now that ever before. If you are passionate about it you should become one of those people. Go to school and learn the science. Get a job at one of those companies and help improve the technology. Or start your own company! You are not helpless!
