Solar Power?

Question:
How can i make my apartment less dependent on eletrical outlet power and where do i find green alternatives in singapore?

Answer:
Unfortunately, You live in an apartment. I doubt that you would want to invest the kind of money to install a proper solar array, (passive or photovoltaic), in a property that you do not own. I also have doubts that your landlord would allow the modifications.
I do know that on-the -grid photovoltaic systems, here in the U.S., are becoming more attractive every day. There are numerous federal, and state incentive programs that bring it within reason. I know that I am watching it closely, as I have a perfect south facing metal roof, on which I could easily install an array.
Bear in mind to switch off your appliances when they are not in use, including those on standby mode. Don't make your air-conditioning be too cold.
The problem with alternative sources of power is that they are expensive, and have not been researched thoroughly. But there are some passive ways that are very cost effective.

One being passive solar water heating. It pimarily is a 'black box' that is placed on the rooftop of your building that collects heat from the sun. This will not cost as much as a full photovoltaic (solar energy) system, which you will need panels, batteries, and an inverter. Plus the cost of electical lines and an electrician.
