Question:
i was looking out my back garden 2day and i was looking at akk the leaves and thought; why arn't humans using this great idea. i know we have solar panels but wouldnt it make more sense to use natures way, after all it has been expermanting for billions of years instead of our what 40? why arn't scientists using green instead. As you can proably see i dont know much about photosynthesis!! thanks!
Answer:
Photosynthesis is about 1% efficient while we can make PV cells about 20% efficient.
This is yet another case of nature being inferior to human technology.
Yup you are right .Nature fixes lots of solar power. All the oxygen we breath for example comes from it.Problem is to fix power in readily distributable form like electricity.Artificial photosynthesis is a subject being researched.
Photosynthesis is a complicated biological process which turns carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen, with the help of sunlight and some enzymes. Direct porting of the process to something for humans would be tough to find a use for. However, solar power in other applications has some promise.
