Who developed the self recharging solar battery?

Question: There was a battery (d cell) that was shown on TV which was half a normal NiCd rechargeable with a clear lens and a solar panel built in. When the battery ran down, you just placed it on a window ledge and it re-charged itself from the sun.
Who designed and marketed this battery?
