Solar Panels?

Question:
So, how exactly do they work?(details please)
Does your electronics and appliances still run off of electricity?
Please explain this to me.

Answer:
Yes your appliances will work. I don't know a lot about this but I have been checking into it. They work by generating currents into DC {direct current} and charging batteries then the current goes into your home and is inverted to AC {Alternating Current} by the inverter. You need to determine how much current you use in which will determine what size and how many batteries are needed and then you can determine how many solar panel will be needed to supply your current. By my research it would cost me around 18k to 20k to supply my house with the needed current. It is one of the thing that you would be better off to overkill if possible. I can't afford the $20,000.00 right now but I have been thinking of doing part of my home now and upgrading later. Good luck if you decide to go this route.
Solar cells change light energy into electricity which you can then store in a battery and use to power your appliances.
Take a look for solar panels in the search box in the upper right hand corner of this page. A lot of good info there.

Are you on the grid and your electric utility offers net metering? If so don't even think about batteries unless outages are so frequent and long that you need uninterruptible power. Having batteries and having to arrange house circuits to shed unnecessary load during outages costs a bundle. Batteries need maintenance and occasional replacement. They eat up a lot of the power you generate. I saved about $8,000 by not having batteries.
