What's the difference between a solar eclipse and lunar eclipse?

Question:

Answer:
Solar Eclipse: The Moon is in between the Earth and the Sun.

Lunar Eclipse: The Earth is in between the Sun and the Moon.

Draw a picture and it will make sense.
In a solar eclipse, the moon passes between the earth and the sun thereby blocking out the sunlight - very dramatically in a total eclipse of the sun - and turning things dark periodically until the moon passes across the face of the sun and the light comes through again.

In a lunar eclipse, the earth passes between the sun and the moon which thereby causes a black shadow to steadily pass over the moon and make the moon disappear. This persists until the moon passes out of the earth's shadow and reappears.

Understandably, primitive people found both phenomena disturbing.
Solar is the earths shadow covering the sun...

Lunar is the earths shadow covering the moon...
In a lunar eclicpe the earth passes between the moon and the sun casting a shadow on the moon.

It's really a drag when the sun passes between the earth and the moon. JK
In a lunar eclipse the shadow of the earth covers the moon.
in a solar eclipse the sun gets blocked out
in a luner eclipse the moon gets blocked out
A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the earth and the sun, blocking the sun's light from reaching a portion of the earth's surface. Solar eclipses can occur only during new moon.

A lunar eclipse is when the earth passes between the sun and the moon, blocking the sun's light from reaching the moon. A lunar eclipse can occur only during full moon.

Eclipses can be partial (only part of the sun's or moon's surface is blocked) or total (the moon blocks the entire sun, or the earth blocks the entire moon).

Each year has between two and five eclipses. Lunar eclipses are visible from the night side of the earth. A solar eclipse is visible from only small parts of the day side of the earth, because the moon's shadow on the earth is much smaller than the day side of the earth.
solar eclipse = the moon is between the Earth and the Sun
Lunar eclipse = the Earth is between the Moon and the Sun
