Solar power??

Question:
I am keen to do my bit for climate change and have installed a solar panel. As i live in a very rough neibourhood i have found it too risky to put it outdoors so have put it in the loft where there are lots of windows but it never gets any sun. However it only produces power when i turn the light in the loft on? Why??

Answer:
It needs to go outside, it needs direct sun rays.
Here is the answer you've been waiting for

i think it really needs strong sunlight ie:- direct
It will only work if it is outside... it won't function properly if the light rays are being obstructed by the window.

Plus if you live in the UK then you're not going to get that much sun anyways...
Solar panels require direct sunlight. ALthough you are getting power when you turn your loft lights on, it is WAY below the panels ability to provide. you may live in a rough neighborhood but I doubt anyone is going to throw rocks at your panel (do they throw rocks at your house and break you windows?) Just make sure it installed securely and in an inaccessable spot (so it doesn't get stolen)
The solar cells need a certain energy level to produce power. The lamp works because even though it is a much smaller power source the power is of the right level.

Indirect sunlight will never give you any power. If you are afraid to have the panel out of doors then you should consider a sky light positioned on the South facing section of the roof of the house.
If you aren't joking what you have done, i shall give you a serious answer as to why your panel will barely work.

a. Solar panels work on a basis of them being faced towards the sun, positioned southwards, as this is where the best light comes from all day. Any other direction will be pretty useless as the panel won't catch the direct sun which it needs.

b. I think it is called the 'lunar eclipse' or along those lines anyway, where as the direction of the sun rises across the sky throughout the day. If panel positioned southwards, it will catch direct sunlight for the longest time possible, otherwise waste of time.
Nice one, but I think your lights a bit dim !
