$30,000 for a solar panel system ? what are you trying to run - a warehouse ? bank it and save it or shop around for some more bids.
That's going to depend on your electric bill and how much you feel you can save over time and the guess at where power cost are going. You also have to remember it will require maintenance.
you could definatley be able to get a good profit back, put it in real terms, i have a friend who pays 150$/a month on electricty
right there that would pay for itself in 17 years, and thats just with 150/amonth
good luck
30k sounds like a lot for a solar system for a single family dwelling. I'd imagine you could find something more in the 10 to 15k price range that would be adequate and stick the rest in the bank.
In general, though, solar panels are worth the money. They are much more rugged and effcient than they were even a few years ago and the tax write off can be a big plus as well.
cheers!
I work with a guy who has his own business installinging these systems. For one thing you want to wait until later this year when the government is going to raise the rebate for installing such a system. I believe it is going from 4% to 6% cash back - so def. look into the government kickbacks. It is even possible to design a system where you actually are feeding the grid and rather than get an electric bill you will receive a check each month! So you def. want to be "on the grid". This should be a home you plan on staying in long term to get the best financial value - think about your energy savings over the next 20 or 30 yrs. It will likely be more worthwhile than 6% on the 30k. Hope this helps.
