If you lined up the sun across the solar system how many would fit ?
Question:
Answer:
It's debatable, but if you assign the solar system a diamater of 2 896 819 200 km, 2080 suns would fit across it (the diameter of the sun is 1.392 x 10^6 km.)
The Solar System extends far beyond the farthest planet, but I assume you mean across Neptune's orbit.
I think Geddy above had the wrong size of that orbit - it is about 9 billion kms across. So, you could fit about 7000 suns across that orbit.
PS - the Oort cloud of comets is considered still part of the Solar System, and is believed to extend out to 1 light year.
So, that would be 2 light years across - or 2 x 10^13 kms.
divide that by 1.4 x 10^6 kms and you get about:
1.4 x 10^7
That is 14 million suns in a line.
perhaps now you should ask how many suns you could squash into that volume of space.
mmmmmmmmmm
