How many planets are in our solar system?

Question:

Answer:
The 10th planet was discovered last summer.

July 29, 2005: "It's definitely bigger than Pluto." So says Dr. Mike Brown of the California Institute of Technology who announced today the discovery of a new planet in the outer solar system.

The planet, which hasn't been officially named yet, was found by Brown and colleagues using the Samuel Oschin Telescope at Palomar Observatory near San Diego. It is currently about 97 times farther from the sun than Earth, or 97 Astronomical Units (AU). For comparison, Pluto is 40 AU from the sun.

The planet's temporary name is 2003 UB313. A permanent name has been proposed by the discoverers to the International Astronomical Union, and they are awaiting the decision of this body before announcing the name.
9

(sun = star) -> mercury, venus, earth, mars ,[asteroid belt], jupiter, saturn, uranus, neptune and pluto [-> to oort cloud]

could be more, ya never know
9
There are 9 visible ones but everyone forgets about Xoophoo, the Invisible Planet.
There are generally said to be nine (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto), although some would argue that Pluto is an escaped moon of Neptune rather than a planet. 2003 U313 (discovered July 2005) makes ten. Of course, if you don't count Pluto you're back to nine.
We have 9.
I think they just discovered a 10th planet
There are currently 9 planets recognized. However, the asteroid belt is between Mars and Jupiter (the first answer incorrectly marked the asteroid belt as being after Jupiter). However, the word 'planet' is not strictly defined and some scientists give compelling arguments that Pluto is not a planet while others propose that Jupiter is actually a failed star. However, despite these disagreements, 9 is still the accepted number of planets in the Sol system.
9 or 10 because planet x is out there and i dont think pluto is really a planet.
Nine, possibly ten. But i thought i heard that they were re-thinking the whole 'pluto is a planet' thing because its just a floating iceball.
Most peope think 9, but Xena, a new planet, has been recently discovered.
