I'm writing a novella (basically a short novel). In it, one of the the two main characters, along with parts of the Earth, are switched with land corresponding to those same areas from the 1300's. As you can imagine, communication is a neccesity. Based on aid that I got for my novella, I was told that using BlackBerries (or at least a similar device) that were solar powered-equipped would facilitate communication. My question is: do such devices exist? They can be on the drawing board, but the cutoff date is mid-June of 2007.

I don't know if you can get one from the factory that is solar-powered, but there are certainly small portable solar chargers... I've seen a lot of them on top of trucks here in Reno... They are solar trickle-chargers... Even if you used one of those, and you'd only need a car-adapter (like the ones you plug into the car's lighter) to power your blackberry... Problem solved. A blackberry could be powered (charged every night, or every day) with a Solar-powered Car/Truck battery trickle charger with a lighter adapter. TADA!
