It is already used world wide, not for all aplications but for electricity production. Even in USA competing against nuclear energy (nuclear energy receives money from US government). See Nevada Solar One, for example.
But dont forget wind technology. Millions of houses worldwide receive this energy via electricity. Wind farms already serve cities over 100 000 inhbitants at very competitive prices.
And the future: mixed solar-wind source.

There would have to be some major technological break-throughs before solar power could be considered practical. Even so, it may still result in too little electrical generation for the capital investment.
My answer, is in the next 10 years it is unlikely that solar power would generate sufficent power to satisfy the energy needs of the future.
There are still some drawbacks to solar power. I'm sure we will work out most of then eventually. The one we will not work out is the fact that the Sun does not shine at night. A technology that we know very well and do not have to develop or work out is hydroelectric. There are thousands of suitable small rivers and streams all over the world that are not being utilized at all. Clean, nonpolluting, totally renewable and they run day and night.
If i had a choice between numerous alternate energy, i would certainly not choose Solar Power alone, but will choose both Wind and Solar Power. One is not enough to answer the needs of an ever growing population.
Also, energy from hydrogen might be used this decade for cars (BMW).
Wind and Solar power and the best and the most efficient. (Wind more than Solar)
It is possible. Solar is renewable energy.
I don t think so, because of 2 major reasons:
- it s very expensive.
- it can t be used as a major source of energy ( it can t be used for all kine of applications.
