Are solar landscaping lights any good?

Question:

Answer:
I bought the cheapest I could find, four in a set over a year ago. Those dang things are still working. All my neighbors now have them too. They arent real bright, but good enough.
yes because they don't cost money to run
for decoration only, and the only really good thing is no electric it runs by sun!
Like any product, there are good ones and bad ones.

There are very good quality solar landscaping lights that are sold wholesale to landscaping contractors, and these will generally last a long time and provide trouble-free service. There are also very cheap sets that you can get at incredibly low prices at discount stores, but they'll break down very quickly, and you'll wish you'd spent your money on something of better quality.

Contact a local landscape contractor and see what kind of lights they use in their installations. Perhaps they'll even order them for you to install yourself, for a slight markup.
I bought quite a few solar lights last year, here's what I like and don't like about them.

The initial cost of solar lights is higher than traditional lighting...that was a bit of a negative.

The solar lights definitely do not throw off nearly as much light as the traditional...that can be a postive or negative depending on what type of light you are needing.

I bought these lights to go along my driveway and it's landscaped so I was somewhat challenged in placing them so they would be evenly spaced since they can not be in the shade or they won't fully charge...that was a negative

I have found that the solar lights are a little bit fussy about working....some work great, others are challenged and I bought fairly high quality. About 10% are fussy, either the on/off switch is touchy or the battery connection is touchy.

It's great not having to do the wiring to get the lights out on the driveway....total positive

Overall, I would buy solar lights again only for places where I want a gentle glow, for decorative purposes or for gardens that are far from the house.

I would not buy solar lights to light a path, they just don't throw off enough light.
I like them. I prefer the white led lamps instead of the amber colored. Make sure they will be in full sun most of the day. Oh, if the power in your house goes out one night, you can bring in the solar lights to use for minimal lighting.
Yes..and Id like to buy some also..
