Question:
Answer:
It depends on your objectives. I'm sketchy about gold and I think the Forex is FAR too dangerous for individual investors despite what those advertisements for different trading platforms suggest.
I'd look for energy growth stocks -- companies that are bound to be snapped up by bigger players. Without going into specifics, there are some natural gas companies that are growing like mad and probably getting eyed up by the bigger names.
Don't listen to your friends. Do your own research or hire a pro.
The below are all emerging "alternative energy" companies on the OTCBB (for now). My guess is at least two of them will be a giant within the next 5 years. I'd drop $50k on these and the other $300k in lower risk (bonds, and solid mutual funds).

Put most in safe stuff like Boeing, Johnson and Johnson, ITT, Exxon, Halliburton and maybe some mutual funds. Then go wild with some speculation with 5 to 10% of it, if you wish.
Look at a really great one: NNBP which may save our live with its research on nanobacteria.
Look at Sperix SPEX and BJCT too. No inside information, but I have watched these and owned them for years and ONE OF THESE DAYS they may be winners. SPEX has left handed sugar (tagatose) and BJCT is needle-free injectors.
Oh and put a few bucks into gold.
You have been lucky to have been invested in real estate at the right time and caught all the rise.
You are now pushing your luck thinking of trading in gold. futures and currency about which you probably know very little, pitching your self against real experts.
Decide if you are a speculator or an investor. If the former, then go ahead. If the latter, invest in companies trading in those things. You will then have the benefit of professional management and sleep at night.
