How do I know that he is telling the truth? He's been acting different, lost interest or drugs? How do I know?

I have been trying to get him to talk to me for months (about us and our dying relationship) and he just can't seem to let go of whatever is keeping him from talking "getting in touch" with the situation. I don't know if he is just a waste of my 3yr time already invested or if I should keep trying to understand him. I think that he is afraid to be in a "REAL" relationship. When I try to talk to him about us, he starts talking about remodeling a room in the house or buying something that we might like or something like that. I am not a "gold digger" and I am not interested in what he wants to remodel unless it is our relationship. That is why I think he is afraid of the real thing and I am getting tired of waiting. Any advise on how to find out if this is the case? I keep trying to figure him out and I am starting to think that it is a waste of time. Yes, I ask him and NO he is no help.

Well, I've been in that situation my self, and all I can tell U is my own experience:
I told him once: Since U don't pay attention to me anymore and don't show any interest on me and on our relationship, we have nothing to do together anyway, so LET'S MOVE ON!
U can continue your life without me and I'll do the same, I LOVE U and I don't want to let U go, but if that means U're gonna be happy and maybe that's just what U want, I'll to a sacriface and let U go..
He told me that He didn't know what to do, that he was really confused, so I ask him: to take a decision because he was hurting me too much, and his indifference was killing me!
He didn't do anything... and continue acting with such indifference, so one day... I told him: ok! that's enough 4 me, as U're unable to take your own decisions I'll do it 4 both of us... and put all his stuff by the door.. and told him: ok! U HAVE 10 SECONDS TO LEAVE THIS HOUSE!!
That shocked him!! and now... We're happy and we still together.

If he's not willing to open up, there's nothing you can do. My advice (since I've been is this situation before) is to let him go. Don't let him waste any more of your time.
I was with a guy like this and I convinced him to see a psychiatrist, and he began to improve. However, he started getting into drugs and stuff. I just couldn't deal with his depressed personality anymore, and it was actually my parents who forced me to break up with him. Today I am so glad I did, and I have to admit his psychosis rubbed off on me and it took me some time to recover.
My suggestion: get away from this guy before he begins to negatively affect your life. And if he already is, more reason to leave.
Be strong girl. It's hard when the guy you're with isn't the same guy he was when you started dating.

im a man and i cheated on my girlfriend before. i dont now of course being that im married and all but my point is, If he dosent have anything to hide then he will open himself to you.
