Isn't it possible for the bible to have been altered through all these years?
Question:
And also, how possible is it that translations of the bible havn't been slightly altered?
DIJANO that all it takes is for a letter to be deleted to make gold into old?
And god did not give us a dictionary, that TOO was created by man, and altered by man. What means something today couldve meant something ENTIRELY different YEARS ago! Yet, so much is invested in these scripts of multiple edits, I don't see how anyone can trust 100% of the bible, and if u can't trust 100% what perecentage of it can you? Will you know before your death?
AND why aren't the basic fundamentals of life - the 10 commandments - not given more praise? Those were definately not original of man, no man couldve thought up something so brave such as peace! Look to the commandments, why do you think that if it isn't written in stone it is not believed?

Answer:
It HAS been altered. Books have been taken out, things have been chopped, text re-written, all of it. Every person who has had it re-written has changed stuff. The Song of Solomon was all but gutted because it was judged to be 'too sexual', Jesus' text was re-written to make him sound less sarcastic. Ever king or ruler that commissioned a re-write of it changed it slightly to what he felt it should be.
if you believe in God then you must believe that the bible is just what he wants it to be no matter what
At one point there were 5 popes. Each one had a very different message. Did any of them have the true word? I doubt it.
Oh, it has been changed so many times! Even Shakespeare wrote part of it!
That's why I follow the only truth there is: The Way. The Way relies on no holy book, and is just so simple and honest!
The bible is fake. Its a made up story to make people act "right" so they think there will be consequences for doing "bad" stuff
No, they used a check-sum system to check for accuracy when they made copies in the monasteries. If your copy didn't add up it was thrown out.
Yes the bible has been altered throughout time and meanings have 'probably' been made askew BUT there are and have been organizations and theologians that go through the bible to ensure that the current bibles are as close as possible to the original.
You have to understand that speech changes over time and things take on different meaning so to get people to get the same meaning over time the wording will change.
It's a translation of a translation for a start. It's perfectly possible to believe in God without believing it all to be literally true. But the best advice I think is to treat others how you'd have them treat you.
You know, "virgin" used to mean "unmarried", and not "someone who hasn't had sex". That changes a whole lot of the Bible, doesn't it.
You have some very valid points here. In fact you are asking ALL of the right questions.
The fact is that the Bible has been altered by men in order to control man. Humans that is. And so much of it is misconstrued and taken out of context it's very difficult to see the reasonings and the learnings of it.
In example, the word sin, orginally in the original language of Aramaic, was an archery term meaning missed mark...The word satan, was actually a curse word used to curse someone, like today we would call someone a fool/or something much worse..the word heretic actually means/meant choice or to choose...there are many of these descrepencies in the bible..
Hope this helps a lil bit.
The original bible (the original texts), given by god to Moses, the prophets and the apostles has never changed. How people translate it might be different. To be 100% sure, one would have to make the effort to look into each translation to be sure it was accurate...you can trust 100% of the bible. Where you need discernment is in how it is translated and interpreted. If you see mulitple translations but they all say the same thing, then that is a good sign. I would question and invesitgate where there are differences.
You're exactly right. The Bible has been translated from so many languages by so many people it's impossible to know if the version we currently have is anywhere close to being what was originally written.
Of coarse it is possible. But don't you think that a being that is mighty enough to create everything is able to keep his word to men from being to corrupt? Of coarse men have tried to, like taking Gods name out, or changing a few things in some translations. But you can still get the truth if you search. There is however have a translation that has been translated from the original scrolls, If you would like to view it, have your copy of the bible ready and visit http://watchtower.org
No.
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
If God said it, which He did, why would He allow it to be changed to the point where the meaning is twisted?
God made the world. He made every plant, animal, mineral, cloud, etc...I think if He wanted to get a message through to us that He could get the job done. Is it possible that men in our imperfection have tried to alter God's perfection. Of course, but God can achieve getting his message to us regardless.
Is 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
BTW, there will always be those who doubt and try to disprove God. It is up to you to choose for yourself to have faith.
Perhaps your familiar with the philosophy of skepticism? Not like skeptic of actually events, but skepticism is a school of thought that states since we can't know for sure what the will of God is, we should simply develop our ethics and ways of thinking based upon the fact that we may very well be wrong, and that if we are wrong, God will forgive us because we never claimed that we were 100% correct. In simple context, live your life as you believe it should be lived, but realize that you may very well be wrong, and in this realization, you will be more easily forgiven
happy easter/passover/etc.
Most of the Bible was written in ancient Greek. Anytime there is a translation, there are changes in meaning. IF the translator has an agenda, changes are more radical. The Bible is a good story book, has interesting plot lines, lots of sex...what more can you want from a book? When I hear, "it's in the Bible and therefore, must be God's word and is true," I have to ask, "Which Bible?" No matter the translation, it seems the Bible is a good excuse to believe whatever suits your needs of the day. Kill, steal, envy...all believers can find a spin to make it perfectly holy, can't they? And talk about LIE (false witness in some translations).seems the holier thou art, the better the liar you art.
Good Question and has been asked and answered many times over the years. The Bible is the most scrutinized book ever by far. Its stood the test of time and critic for a long time. We have discovered hundreds of ancient manuscripts to test them by and they remain trustworthy. Translations have been gone over time and again to make sure of there faithfulness. Yes some have taken liberties and distorted some translations but we still have faithful ones available and always will because so many keep a diligent eye to it. Even with all the questions and so called differences there has never been a central or main doctrine that has been lost . Only minor discrepancies that don't effect the integrity of the message. The truth of the cross of Christ being the only way of salvation is perfectly clear and always has been. As to the law you refer to it is important. But do you hear what the law says. It says if you don't keep all the law perfectly you will die. God gave us His law in the same Bible as He taught us about Christ that we might know that we need Him. So the law is important but not to be saved by but to drive us to Christ. Then we will love the law and do our best to keep it knowing that if we are in Christ we are no longer under the condemnation of the law.
I truly believe that the Bible is God's inspired word and people did write God's inspired word. When one sees that. Then, God as a perfect being could not make mistakes. However, we as humans do and God can use those mistakes for his good as well.
Gods time is not our time so, when we see God so limited it is only because we are limited. It is only Faith in Him that makes it clear.
The Commandments were needed when the Israelites needed law and that became the law, but when Christ came he became the law. Our greatest commandment is to "love one another". Our lives are suppose to be like Christ. He is our role model.
Yes different versions of the bible will have different perspectives and will view messages in different ways even just depending on what culture translators have come from. Also words may ahve been chnaged, say for it was "thus", it may be changed to "and so it was...", a small example but for sme words the message may have been completely changed.
There is ofcourse the fact that no two people think the same thing in excatly the same way, some people who ahve been able to read the very original version of the bible, or even the Greek version, say it is quite different.
The word "***" definitely mean something else 100 years ago. Why not changes since 2000 years ago? It's amazing how people cling to "the truth" with little to no evidence supporting it. Half the answers here don't even have any first-hand support, just hearsay.
Humans could not have thought about peace? What nonsense is this? Do YOU want incessant war? Do you have trouble not thinking about killing other people? You must be on a completely different plane of existance than I am experiencing. Maybe people with that sort of disability need someone else to tell them how to think, but I can handle my own thinking for myself, thank you.
Stone? Now you want to buy the stuff written in the pyramids in stone? What?
How does any of it make much sense outside of a genius elite ruling people that can't comprehend how they are controlled.
In all this time, Satan has not destroyed the word of God,
he just causes people not to be able to see it if they let him 2Cor.4:3,4; The KJV 1611 has the truth in it, just learn to say it in your present day speech.
