I think that white corporate america loves rap music. I think they use it as a way to keep black people down.?

Question:
I wish more black people would really listen to the message in these songs. When I listen to alot of these rap songs they talk about disrespecting women,Rap music makes drugs look glorious thats why so many are in jail. but also they talk about buying expensive clothes apple bottoms jeans that cost $68.00 a pair. The reason so many young black people are living in poverty in america because they want to keep up the image that these rappers are saying they should have impalas with big rims and $150.00 Jordons. These songs never say anything about saving money to buy a house or investing in a business. They only talk about spending money to look rich, buying platinum and gold grills diamonds. Why don't most black people who like these type of rap songs and spend all there money on clothes, shoes, and jewlery, realize that they are only making the white man richer and they will always be more as long as they keep trying to dress like their rich instead of saving and investing their money.

Answer:
They are being controlled by the mass media and don't know it. It's compete with your neighbor, pretend your rich, spend & spend, a rat race, and it is what the corporate elite has laid out for them, & they have fell right into it. If you get time, watch "Terrorstorm" on Google video.
I think i have heard it all now-
I hate rap music. Just like you said.the message of the song is disrespecting women, drugs, and so forth.

And it's not a way of corporate America putting black people down. The black people are the ones who sing the songs and make them up (except for a few rappers). And their the ones who like it.
yes, corporate america is destroying hip hip and black culture as well as selling a lot of sh1t.

Boxybrown - as always you have good point. But you have to admit. Coporations are distorting the image of hip hop. Rappers are like clones now.
Thats odd...I didnt think blacks needed any help keeping themselves "down"...I thought the refusal to speak proper english, lack of education, irresponsible breeding and lack of a work ethic was enough

Hey I live in metro detroit, and at some of the strip clubs some of the brothas just start throwing money at the stage like on rap videos..I will never have enought money to do that.
I hate rap music because to me it really isn't music and most of the lyrics are terrible. However, the media in general is made to make everyone not just blacks want whatever is in style. Blacks don't live in poverty because of buying expensive stuff. Anyone who lives in poverty probably doesn't have a great education which means they don't have a great job to support themselves. Also, statistics show that more white teenagers buy rap/hip hop cds than blacks do. At my high school, which was very diverse, there were always more white guys mimicking rap/hip hop artists and blaring the music in their cars.
Does rock, country and pop teach kids how to save money? I agree there is some horrible rap music out there, but I have listened to the worse of the worse and I have yet to rob, rape, or sell drugs to anybody. Its freedom of speech when its a Nazi rock band, but some how this doesn't apply to rap music. When you let the media overemphasis on the negative rappers out there, you fail to notice the positive ones.

I totally admit that YG&B. There are a lot and I do mean a lot of the same crap music recycled. On the other side I saw Bill O'Reilly talking about the rapper Ludacris who I am personally not too fond of, but is the song "Slap" really making black youth go out and slap their boss and white kids? How Gangter is Lupe Fiasco or Common, yet they are generally recognized in the same catagory.
OMG!!!
It's just music!!! .I think the black rappers are benefiting from it...after a hit song or two they capitalize on their name and broaden out to market clothing, perfume, etc.I guess white people are "held down" in life because heavy metal music makes them kill their mamas! People are just people and like what they like- there doesn't have to be a reason behind it!
PEACE OUT!
No artist black or white sings about saving money and buying houses.

White people are not using rap music in commercials, and in tv shows to keep you down.

I turn a Nike commercial off every time I see it, because it's geared toward Black people. There is maybe 1 white guy in the whole commercial, and some gangster rap in the background.

I think that you are taking this whole White people trying to hold you down and blowing it way out of context. How bout John Lennon? Did you ever hear a Beatles song singing about a 401K?
It's not about black or white, it's about green.
MISUNDERSTOOD , every time , EVEN when we want to do GOOD.
My brother is a professional Rap artist ( won't mention his name ) however , he explained to me what the real deal is. Rap currently comes in 2 forms. Gangsta and Hip Hop - different. Gangsta , speaks for itself. Hip Hop stretches further across the horizons and talks about love and positive change. Let them RAP (SPEAK) AND push for positive change. Don't be narrow minded folks.
not all rappers talk bout haveing money and women...tupac had songs about his childhood, teen pregnacy, his mom, u can't say all rap has a negative view. oh yeah rappers do invest their money, ever heard of roca-wear ,bbc, shady, g-unit? all clothing lines...
i prefer rap music ,,,,,i love it ...i am so glad they not trying to blow up planes setting off bombs ,,,or trying to destroy American ,,,let them rap ,,,,,,its not keeping nobody down black or white .everyone has there own mine and if they are living in poverty is it a sin to want to look nice ? when you go out to eat who are you making rich ,,,,,
im the biggest fan of rap. i dont sell drugs or glorify bling-bling. u people are weird and just plain stupid. if u listen to the music you would know that its the fun music. what is the problem? you're worrying about people's financial issues "as long as they keep trying to dress like their rich instead of saving and investing their money." ITS THEIR DAMN MONEY! wtf? i will always feel sorry for you dummies.
Aha! That's exactly what it is! I agree! I actually had a conversation about this with my boyfriend. We agreed.
