Question:
I am wanting to buy a PDA, and realized that my cell phone contract is nearly up. Thinking I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone, I began looking at smartphones. Well, being my first device I don't want to invest a great deal in it. I'm primarily looking for something that will store my contacts, memos, to do lists, open Word/Excel/pdf/etc documents, play mp3s, etc. A camera would be nice. The only catch is, it really needs to have Wi-Fi. I have no desire to blow $40+ a month on a data plan. The only phones I have found that have integrated Wi-Fi are fairly expensive, and I don't think I want to make that kind of investment yet. I was looking at a unlocked, used Palm Treo 650, which seems perfect only it doesn't have Wi-Fi or support the Palm Wi-Fi card. I have discovered the Enfora Wi-Fi sled, but it looks a little cumbersome and I'm not sure that I could even find one. Also it's pricey. Anyone have an idea for a cheap Wi-Fi phone, or a cheap phone/Wi-Fi card combo?
Answer:
The Nokia E61 comes to mind.
It can be had for around USD$ 300 right now, unlocked. It is WIFI capable . If you want the camera, then the upgrade to it - the E61i is a much better choice, however it comes at around ~USD$500.
Of course, if you are paying $500, then that opens up your choices to pretty much everything from the HTC s710, Nokia N95 etc..
