While in a current job, what is the most effective/beneficial way of using a newly obtained MBA degree?
Question:
Answer:
I don't have my Master's...yet. But, when I went to business school for my undergrad, a lot of professors (who had MBA's) recommended that the best way to earn more money is to switch to a new company. Because you're giving up a position that you're already comfortable in, you can command a raise and sometimes higher benefits from a new employer.
Also, unrelated to making more money, people always benefit from going to a new job. It's good to embrace change and to broaden your experience by working in different settings with different people, projects, and growth potential.
Best of luck!
You can try seeking through official channels at your current employer. Try asking to take on experiences & responsibilities outside of your traditional domain of expertise. In other words, try adding value first, before asking or looking for advancement, etc. Try seeking through unofficial channels by networking & speaking with other influential individuals to take on pet projects or new roles. In my experience, however, it's best to just leave - your employer either won't trust you once you get your MBA or there won't be any opportunities made available anyways.
