It only helps if you do well in engineering. If you barely graduate from engineering it will be difficult to both get a job and get accepted to an MBA program. Engineering is a difficult degree and you won't make it if you don't have much interest in the work. However, you have to recognize that once you receive the MBA it is unlikely you will continue doing "engineering" work. You'll move to the business side and no longer have the chance to do all the cool stuff the "real" engineers are doing. You have to decide if you want to move up in company on the research side or the business side. If the answer is business go for the MBA. If not the answer is a MS or PhD in engineering.
Yes, in many organisations since the level of mathematics and science taught in engineering is higher than what you get in BBA or B.Com. Almost all branches of management are much more mathematical and engineering gives a solid foundation in logical thinking and quantitative decision making.
But there are many opportunities for others too, so not to worry.
