What work experience and GMAT score do I need to get into the top 10 US business schools for a MBA degree?

Question:
I'm considering applying to business school next year after I sit for the GMAT exam. What score do I need to get into the top 10 US schools? Is it worth going to a business school outside of the top 10 if I don't score high enough on the GMAT? I have about 3 years of work experience now, so I'll have 5 years by the time I actually enroll in 2008. Is this enough experience to add value to the classroom? Thank you!

Answer:
You need a GMAT score of at least 680, over 700 is better, but over 720 is ideal. Spend the money and take a GMAT prep course (Kaplan, Princeton Review, etc). I found admissions411 has a good sample of the GMAT scores that will get you into the top 10 business schools. I hope your GPA is over 3.5, also.

5 years of work experience will be average. Focus on your community involvement and leadership positions to help you out.

oh yeah, only go for the MBA if you can get into a top business school. Otherwise, you really have to think about the cost of the school and your expected future earnings from the MBA degree.
