What is the purpose of securing an MBA or PhD degree?
Question:
Answer:
A Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) degree is a research degree. Someone who has a Ph.D. has demonstrated mastery of knowledge within a discipline. Once that mastery has been demonstrated, then the Ph.D. candidate goes on to write a dissertation, which is a description of research conducted to contribute new knowledge to the discipline. A Ph.D. will usually require somewhere between 3 and 7 years of post-baccalaureate education. People pursue a PhD degree when they want to teach in higher education, do research, or practice, as in clinical psychology.
An MBA degree is a Masters of Business Administration. As opposed to a research degree, an MBA is a professional degree. Students pursue the equivalent of 2 years full-time education in business-related topics, such as finance, marketing, accounting, organizational behavior, or international business. Instead of completing a dissertation, students may engage in internships in business-related settings. Generally, people pursue a business degree because they are interested in going into business, as opposed to teaching or doing research.
