Business Administration or Economics? Which is a better undergrad degree?
Question:
Answer:
Economics. Especially if you're going to law school.
How about majoring in one & minoring in the other?
Business Administration is a broad subject , whilst encapsulating various disciplines, is seen as a generic degree. Economics conversely is specific, but highly focussed.
What are your career aims?. if you wish to try a broad degree then target with an MBA then do so. however an economics degree provides better grounding ( research wise) for a law degree
If you are sure about the MBA and or the Law degree do economics. Business Administration and MBA would be redundant (and unbelievably boring).
Actually statistics have shown that more Economics majors tend to be successful business men compared to those in the field of Business Administration. Being a law student myself having also considered an MBA at one point, I suggest doing an Econ degree. Doing a law degree and an MBA degree are completely different, so keep that in mind. Most people try to lump them together, but really they require different talents.
Economics. That's a real major. A Bachelor's in BusAdm will just expose you to watered down versions of some of the courses you'll take when you pursue an MBA. What's the point of that? It makes you look like you were looking for the easy way through college. If you apply to graduate business or law school with a Bachelor's in Business, the admissions committee will wonder "Why didn't he major in a real subject?" Not good.
