Best path for a software engineering degree with interest in business?
Question:
The problem is that I am bored with marketing analysis and purchasing keywords and generating campaigns. I feel that this is not the best field for me. With 6 month experience at hand, I would like to move on into project management and/or business analysis.
My question is what should be the best path? Should I increase my level of knowledge for those fields or should I shoot for an entry-level position? I want a job where I am contributing to the main stream business and not like being an analyst for a firm whose core competency is not marketing and perhaps never will be marketing.
Thanks
Answer:
Technical sales support.
You ride along with a sales person and provide technical sales support to the sales executive. You come in to help spec out the specific opportunity as it relates to the technical solution that the company provides. This could be a specific product, service and/or consulting project depending on the company. You learn a great deal about the business aspect of your technical part of the company without writing any software. In addition, you learn the sales cycle and what makes the company click on the fron end of the pipeline. All great areas for any young person to see how the system really works without having to be a software developer.
technical colleges. any college can direct you if you contact them.
Why don't you pursue working with databases in the financial sector? Such as working with a bank or asset management firm.
