What should I think of an MBA program that does not require you take the GMAT ?

Question:
I'm graduating in May with a B.S, Psychology degree. I have no interest in a career in psychology, but I do have an interest in business. I have a 3.1 GPA and 4 years work experience. The university I'm currently attending ( www.twu.edu ) has a graduate business program that is affordable. The only thing I question is that they do not require applicants to submit GMAT scores. The classes are offered on campus or online, whichever the student prefers. I'm nervous about the possibility of future employers looking down on my MBA degree if they feel I took the easy way out... please give your advice.

Answer:
I am glad you are thinking about this because MBA's are a dime a dozen. The real distinguisher is the pedigree of the school. Some employers who offer MBA positions only recruit from certain schools so if you are thinking of working with these larger companies, you want to make sure that you have the right educational pedigree.

The GMAT is only one way to screen prospective employees. When I was interviewing after completing my MBA in 2003, I think I was only ever asked once about my GMAT scores. They assume that if you got into a good school, you must be smart. Employers are more interested in your experience than anything else.

With that in mind, remember that some B-schools are more well-known for particular functions/industries e.g. Wharton is well known for its finance/marketing program and most pple who intend to go into brand/product mgmt would choose Wharton.Good luck!
Many MBA programs require that test.
